Hi there all, my first question on the forum.

I want to fit an up-stand, but it goes across 2 worktops and they are not perfectly level.

There is a pivot point right where the seam of the 2 worktops are and the up-stand can rock (like a see-saw) on this pivot point.

I see 3 options:

1. Contouring the bottom of the up-stand?
2. Install the up-stands in-line with the higher worktop and use filler or a sealant to fill the resulting gap.
3. Contour the higher worktop to make it level with the lower one. Maybe with a sanding block or something?

PS. The other up-stand is already fitted in place.

Looks (to me) as if the splashback isn't horizontal? Check by viewing along its length for curvature.

If it is flat then the surfaces themselves haven't been laid 'flat' and should be reset.

The pictures don't show the right hand end of the shorter worktop, but you *could, possibly,* remove the plinth from the base and wind up the legs under the cabinet, at the right hand end. (Check whether the carcass is fixed back to the wall and if necessary, slacken the screws).

This would, if nothing else, make an attempt at putting the two worktops in line, even if it upset the level - which wouldn't be much. You might then need to adjust the hanging of the cabinet doors, as you will have distorted the carcass.

As k-e said, check the new upstand for distortion. As these are mdf, it may be possible to put a bit of a curve in it the other way, perhaps by weighting it down while the adhesive sets.

How is the existing upstand on the left fixed?

Simple answer but not the best (sort out the worktop levels) run a pencil line along the bottom of the up-stand parallel to the worktop and scribe it in to fit.

The upstands and the worktops are solid oak. I've checked and the upstands are fully straight & true.

I like the idea of adjusting the back legs of the cabinet, that might work.

The existing upstand is fixed with evo stick adhesive (see pic), so it would be a real pain to move that or the cabinets it's sitting on.

I think I'll try lowering the right hand cabinet via the feet first of all, if that doesn't work I think the "scribing in" solution might be next.

I meant you to increase height on BOTH front AND rear legs (on the right hand end).

Now you come to mention it, you could also LOWER both front and rear feet on the left hand side, in this case you will also need to lower the legs at the "front" of the left hand carcass.

I can confirm that I’m an idiot (don’t tell the wife).

After re-reading everyone’s replies, I decided to double check the upstand, and yes it was slightly distorted. I turned it 180 degrees and it fit like a glove!
