Problem battery? Or bigger problem?

Post by DCOL89 »

Hello,

Wondering if anyone can help. I have a Nissan Almera 53 plate and bought a new battery for it about two months ago. Everything was ok until recently, I will not drive the vehicle for one or two days and the car doesnt start. As soon I put jump leads on it will start first time and will continue working for a few days and then I will need to jump it again! I know its a new battery but does this suggest the battery is the problem or could it be something else?

Thanks

A good chance that the alternator is playing up. They can leak power to earth and drain the battery but still manage to pump out a little charge when running which is why the car runs after a jump. You need to get the alternator checked. :thumbright:

Could be a bad battery but much more likely something else. Alternator a possibility, especially if it is original. You need the check the output.
Also look for any parasitic draw, even something as simple as a layer of dirt can wick away power slowly.

Multimeter needed for these checks.

More than likely a parasitic draw, have you checked nothing has been left on ,glove box lights boot lights are common
As the subject is very long winded I would advise
To go on you tube and search Parasitic draw in most cases you will need a multi meter

:withstupid: Its a parasitic draw, you will need a multi meter and do a current test it could be any number of things, stereo and interior lights

A simple battery and alternator check is worth doing
