Mountfield Omega 42CM upper handle

Post by topconker »

I'm trying to find a Mountfield Omega 42CM mower upper handle, does anyone have one?
I'm told they are now obsolete but the mower is too good to just right off. Failing to find one means I'll have to strip it down and sale for parts.

I have no idea what your one looks like, but there are 24 mountfield handles on ebay
Above are my opinions Below is my signature.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

I bought an upper handle for a Mountfield that I had once. Like you it was obsolete but I found a replacement by looking at the parts list drawings to compare the bolt holes and lever arrangements. Have a plough through these https://www.shouldersofshoreham.co.uk/m ... s/m-series Another way is to put Mountfield 42cm in Google and click on images. You will spot a similar handle there I am sure.

I'd bend one up out of some 20mm steel conduit.
Easy enough to do with a length of hardwood about a metre long with a hole drilled in it just a bit bigger than the conduit, and bend it a fraction at a time.

I tried to repair my handle Dave, it turned into a nightmare. I got some steel tube that fitted the broken end perfectly. I then crushed the new end and drilled it to take the tightening screw. I pop riveted through the handle into the new part to secure it. Pretty pleased with my efforts after a couple of uses it fatigued out and broke away. Strangely it was simultaneous with the engine packing up. As it was a back up old mower I junked it. Your idea of bending up a new one is good but these handles tend to have bits welded on and precise drilling for controls, cables and the like. They cost a bit but it depends on how good the mower is to risk the purchase. I have a sinking fund of a fiver a month for a mower replacement. My Mculloch is nine years old now so there must be £540 in the fund for renewal. I swore I would replace rather than repair but I have actually done the drive belt (a story thread on its own viewtopic.php?f=48&t=98512&p=799346&hil ... 27#p799346 ) a new grass bag frame and a blade. Sometimes it works out

Depends how much time you're prepared to put into these things Walt. And the kit you have.
I've got MIG welding, and I could make up the bushes and bits "near enough" if I had to.
Takes time though, and life's short. I spent ages messing about with my old McCulloch brush cutter. Carb cleaned and rebuilt, endless fiddling. Still a complete git to start.
Replacement easier, just more expensive.
I've spent my life "make do and mending" I enjoy it, but only up to a point!
