This video briefly shows what can happen to double glazed windows in cold weather once the sun heats the unit up too quickly. The difference in temperature can cause the window to implode, as you can see from the pane of glass on the inside of this double glazed unit I can imagine this went with a real bang. The good news is that this problem normally only affects small double glazed units which are not as flexible as larger double glazed units. Double glazed units like this are relatively inexpensive, the patterned one in this video cost £15 and measured approximately 550mm by 300mm, the other cracked unit in this video was £20 and measured approximately 990mm by 450mm.
