Tapping threads into thin metal is impossible; this is where the rivet nut comes in handy. These are known by several different names including rivet nuts, riv nuts or nutserts. Once the rivet nut is expanded in the hole it leaves a permanent thread which makes future disassembly and reassembly much easier. The kit to insert the riv nuts is not cheap and can cost £70 upwards, a standard kit will insert rivet nuts up to about M6 size, anything larger and a pneumatic machine is required.
