Which combi drill with spirit level?

Hi folks,

Can anyone recommend me a combi drill with a spirit level built in? erbauer seem to do one but not read that good reviews? I'd like a lower end makita (probably looking at second hand ones to keep the price down) but as I'm crap at drilling things straight then thought I would benefit from the level. Not looking to spend too much.

Alternatively can I just glue a bullseye or small level on the side?

a spirit level is really more off a gimmick
getting your poise right will help you drill better but to be honest a hole is a hole even a few degrees off will usually work fine as whatever you are tightening will just sit flush to the surface regardless off screw angle

a small set square can help

what exactly are the problems you are having

Half way through writing a message similar to Big All's then my internet shuts.
Screwfix seem to have a few offers on at the minute, not sure what your price range or requirements are but just a thought.

So is that a general consensus that the spirit levels dont actually work then?

Dont want to spend more than £100 either new or secondhand really.

yes they work but you wouldn't chose a drill on that basis
its like choosing a car because you like the spare wheel

i recomend ryobi and they do a spirit level on some off theres

I don't have one and have never used one, so I don't know, but doesn't the vibration render them fairly useless in operation..........or are they only used to find an initial starting position?

i have one on one off my ryobi drill but have never looked at it so woulnt know if it jumps but on hammer would expect that to be the case

I have used a level on occasions when using my SDS to drill bigger diameter holes with accuracy. I taped one of those free Screwfix levels they gave out a few years back and although it looked stupid it worked.

I had a ryobi with a bubble.... use it on hammer and the bubble turned into 100 bubbles. Waste of space.

I'm with the above suggestion of working on your poise, use a square to help you get started straight if you dont have a natural eye for squareness.

Makita don't do drills with spirit levels. The only semi-pro stuff I can think of is Ryobi (calling BA, CALLING BA!!!) who do make some of their drills with spirit levels (I used to own a corded SDS so-equipped)

As with others, though, I have to admit to the bubbles being a bit of a gimmick. Also they didn't survive all that many drops, so I can hardly recommend them

i know ryobi isn't every bodies cup off tea but for the diy market or someone starting out in business on a limited budget they are a godsend
of course they wont stand up to the abuse that the trades put them through but if you cut back just a little bit they will survive for years

then as you build up you business you replace the ryobi with the big boys toys if and when they break down

I woz only kidding! I've worked with sparkies from a couple of firms who "buy" their apprentices Ryobi cordless drill/drivers on the grounds that they're good enough to last a few years (until they start earning proper money) and that if they don't make the grade they'll at least leave with tools good enough to either start in another trade, or keep them going at home for a lot longer. As I said before, I have owned some Ryobi stuff in the past (and my first 1/2in router 30-odd years back was actually a Ryobi R-500)
