1995 escort LX TD. You have to push the clutch nearly to the floor to operate.
Am I right in thinking there is no adjustment on this model?
Which direction does the clutch wear? ie will the clutch pedal gradually wear closer to the floor or will it ease back so I don't have to press it so far?

think they are a self-adjusting hydraulic system ,check fluid level is ok ,might be the self adjusting bit not working ,or time for a new clutch
not really sure on how that works on them
not sure if any use but found this

Im suprised if they have hydraulic clutches?
I would have thought the old ford special, cable and a ratcheting pawl on the top of the pedal.....?
If its this, the ratchet could be playing up, or the cable streched a bit.
Does the pedal occasionally play up, like not come back up properly, or seem to click when it goes down?

Thanks Foggy, Haynes E-book well worth exploring.
Hitch, Clutch works fine, its just the length of travel and the fact that I have to nearly floor it to operate properly.
Not much use on cars nowadays however, give me a Morris 1000 or an A35 to strip & rebuild. Couple of Imperial spanners, a screwdriver and a pack of fag papers for the points - Nae probs !

The pedal has a plastic ratchet to take up the slack. These are prone to wear, the teeth wear off, this normally means you end up with no clutch.
Your may be holding on the last tooth.
They are not expensive to fix, just bl88dy awkward.
You have to lay upside down in the foot well with a lamp to see anything, and then the space to work in is limited.
But take a look, you should be able to see whats going on.
