Fitting a sliding door, any pointers appreciated...

Hi all, I am just about to fit a sliding door to replace our existing hinged bathroom door to make more room.
I have just bought a Hillaldam Coburn 'House one' sliding door kit and was wondering whether anyone on here had any experience with fitting these?
I was originally thinking about taking off the existing architrave and filling any gaps and painting to finish flush, but reading the fitting instructions it looks like the track for the slide has to be attached to a timber batten across the doorway. This will then leave a large(ish) gap between the door and wall, so would you:
1/ Fit a plain architrave around the frame to fill that gap or,
2/ Not bother with the timber batten or architrave?

Thanks for any pointers on this or any other suggestions you may have.

Oh well, it looks like I am flying solo on this one then

If anyone is interested, I decided to use the following method:

First I removed the old architrave.
I added a 95mm wide x 18mm deep batten across the top of the doorway which is double the length of the doorway.
I then removed the old door 'stop' from the frame, cleaned up the old paint and added a new frame inside the door frame which lies flush with the top batten (proud from old frame by 18 mm).
Fixed sliding gear to the batten, drilled and fitted running gear to the top of the door, and hung the door from the rail.
Added end stops.

Still to do:
Add a 2x3 door jamb with catch.
Add pelmet to cover up and then paint.........

Not as bad as I thought, and it saves a huge amount of space........oh and the sceptical missus is happy too.....

I have never done a sliding door before. I am sure that someone will be along soon to tell you that you are doing it wrong lol, that's what normally happens when I answer some posts

No worries U.H, judging by the number of replies I think I must be the first person to fit one.......

I guess that makes me a sliding door expert then

Most people seem to be taking them out, but it has solved a big (or should that be little?) space problem for me and I can now start fitting my next (bargain) new toy: http://www.plumbworld.co.uk/671-16719
Hopefully a few people will have fitted these and will have some pointers for when I inevitably get stuck fitting it.....

Just tried it again this afternoon and it's now working.........it looks like they aren't fans of sliding doors either....
