Right click disabled

Post by Rog (RJ) »

I'm sure I've read somewhere on this site a way of downloading graphics where the [right click/save as] has been disabled.
Can anybody point me in the right direction please?

Some copyright material, has that feature to stop you copying and saving stuff.

Right click disable seriously annoys some people, me included. Disabling right click will not stop a large percentage of people from saving graphics as there are a few other ways to to save them.

I think you might mean this-

The right click disabling is very limited in protection.

The key on your keyboard between [Start/Windows] and [Ctrl] on the right hand side will work as right click.

Also if you use something like Firefox then saving graphics is easy.

Tools > Page Info

Click the [Media] tab and then choose the graphic you want and save it where you like.

If you have images you want to protect then watermarking with a url or sitename is the only real way of protecting them. Anything that is shown on the screen can be saved off. That is the nature of the internet.

Basically as Flaxius/Rich says.

Plus, the images that are 'protected' from right-clicking will also have been downloaded into your 'Temporary Internet Files' folder so you could look in there after you are done browsing, order by date - newest first and you have what you wanted.

Or rather, OTHER people have what you didn't want them to have  .

There are two ways to restrict useful copying of images from a website.
1) watermark them in some way
2) display a low-resolution image and make the high-resolution only available in a restricted area on your website or via email request. This tends to be what sites selling photos and posters do.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"
She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

The key on the keyboard didn't work but I managed to save the picture anyway. It was in a slide show on fotopic so maybe that's why the keyboard key didn't work.

Thanks to all.

Generally, these annoying "anti-right-click" protocols are coded using JavaScript. If you can disable JavaScript for that Web site, or just temporarily for all sites, you should find that it stops. I can't vouch for IE as it uses ActiveX controls, which I don't like so I don't use it (I don't like Windows either so I use Linux), but this should work in Firefox.
