Honda genny engine problems. Help me please!!!!!

Post by the blazing blacksmith »

I have a welder genny that is little used as it only gets a few hours use when fitting gates etc. It has a Honda GX390 motor which has just decided to start playing up. It will run fine for about 1 minute then cut out. It seems like fuel starvation but I stripped out the carb and the jets etc seem fine and fuel seems to be getting through. This is really annoying as it cant have done more than 100 hrs even though it is 4 years old and they are not cheap to buy . Any ideas??????

If it is the same Honda motor they use on lawn mowers I had a similar problem. There is a return spring on exterior linkage which gets weak. There might be a second hole to stretch it too slightly on the link arm and it tensiona the shaft properly. I suspect that it is the choke return? but it certainly cured my mower.

Thanks for that. It seems to have been at least half the problem and when an extra turn or two was put on the spring it ran fine with no load or very small loads. The other was the throttle stop was set too low and so when a heavier load was put on the engine it dipped the throttle too low and stalled the engine so a wee bit of trial and error has fixed that side of it too.

Once again thanks for that tip
