oil and filter change

Post by handyman »

£140 from the skoda dealer  And also said i would need to wait 1.5 hrs. How the hell do they get away with thast amount to change the oil and filter. Thats all thats to be done on the 10,000 mile service

£40 from national tyre

As far as i know its now not required that you must get the car maker to do the servicing when under warranty, you only have to do the work to the guidelines, and the service book be stamped by a vat reg garage

So, where do you get the guidelines from?

Handy, you are right abiut the work can be done by an approved garage BUT they must use original parts, so make sure that price includes Skoda oil filter and any other Skoda-branded consumables.

to the guidelines question, that information by law must be available to anyone who wants it (but they may have to pay - For Toyota, you can access info on their website for €3 an hour, for example).
I would say National Tyre should have the specific service schedule details for any car they say they can service whilst maintaining warranty
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"
She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Crikey I had my wife's Fiesta 1.6 diesel serviced at the local Ford dealer and it didn't even come to £140 and that was including having the diesel pump flushed. Car was nicely valetted as well.

Handy - do it yourself its really easy to do.

It will cost you about £5 for a filter and the cost of oil. Takes about 30 mins!

chrismac,

as stated earlier, it is its first service under warranty, so doing it yourself isnt an option if you want to keep it under warranty.

hitch,

I phoned up to book it in, asked the price, and didnt book it. So, it still needs an oil change

My wifes was the first service, unfortunately I should have read the handbook as it needed one at 12,500 miles rather than 10,000. As it is my wifes car she paid :thumbright:
