Sending Email problem

Post by Tryanything »

Hi all

Wonder if you can help with a little problem

Use Outlook Express for email

Been having problem sending emails, but only to AOL addresses it seems
other adresses go through fine

Another thing ive noticed is on some spam l got, when l block the sender
there address comes up more or less the same as my email address bar
the first 4 letters have been changed

Could this have something to do with not being able to send some email

Im a computer numpty (a router to me is a carpenters tool, ISP,HTML dont
mean zilch) so please be gentle with me
There would be less trouble in the world

Hi TA - I reckon the two are linked.

Sounds to me like AOL have blocked any mail that is originating from your emaiul providers mail servers due to Spam emails - that happens quite a lot and your mail provider will have been put on a blacklist (even if you have your own domain name and stuff, the mail you send will still have your providers signiture on it)

2nd problem ties up with first. You email provider has not put in proper safeguards to stop people using the service to spam emails using their customers (ie you) addresses - doesn't mean they have your passwords or access to your data or anything, but it means they can pretend emails they send are from you and this is why your mails have probably been blacklisted

Who is your email provider?

Check this posting and see if anything rings a bell ....

PS - I found that by googling AOL Blacklist - don't pay anything to fix this!!
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"
She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Hi Hoovie

Thanks for the quick reply

ISP is Orange and use Outlook Express for email

I tried unblocking the spam emails that are using part of my email
address and my emails have been received ok

So looks like your right, is this something l have to get ISP to fix or is it
my problem to fix, if the later how ?

AOL are a real pain in the arse.

They block emils from this domain and I have tried to get on their whitelist several times, but you need a webmasters degree to inderstand exactly what they need.

I find it really offensive that AOL have taken it on themselves to choose what emails you can and cannot receive.

Imagine if the post office mever delivered some of your mail, on the off chance that it could be junk mail :angryfire:

In my opinion what AOL and other email providers are doing should be illegal, they are hurting other peoples businesses by their actions :angryfire:

Perhaps I should block all ip addresses from AOL so that no AOL users can even view this site- or perhaps I should just tell everyone to boycott AOL :cussing:
