Small bit of wood floor needs refinishing

Post by Bella »

I have seen other threads on floor finishing but I haven't seen any reference to bamboo flooring. My apologies if this has been done to death.

We have a small bit of wood floor that needs to be refinished. It's in a desperate state. I am blaming OH's biker boots but I might as well be talking to the wall ::b

It's bamboo floor and has been down for about 10 years. It's in a high traffic area but because of the shape of the floor and the size hiring a floor sander from HSS is a bit pointless. It wouldn't be able to do much. I have come to realise it's going to have to be a hand job.....*commence giggling*

I am perfectly willing to put in the time and effort needed but I have no idea if it's a belt sander we need or an orbital sander.
We have a Bosch palm sander but I wouldn't even attempt to use that. It barely managed to do the kitchen chairs a few weeks back.

Any idea on brand and type? Also, what would be the best way to finish it once sanded?

It's a nice floor but we have neglected this one bit and now it's payback time.

A picture of part of the floor.

We have a makita belt sander. It's quite a lump of a thing. Would this be ok?

Hire the edging sander and use 80,100 and 120 grit paper for the edge's

Use your belt sander for the rest, but don't go sitting on it, let the
machine do the work
Sand with the grain using the different grit papers in a circular motion or
you will end up with ridges

Good luck

And when finished shoot the OH
There would be less trouble in the world
if l had not had six daughters
