We used to have one of these signs.
I agree with most of the comments here too, and now ours has gone, if I see one now I say to my wife "ooh, I would've crashed in to this guy if he hadn't had that sign!"...can you imagine the look I get?
With hindsight, I think we had such a sign for reasons such as being super-nervous about having such a precious package on board, and a sort of middle-class smugness!

i was told that when there isnt any kids, in the car you are meant to turn it upside down, so if you do crash the fire service know theres no kids in the car.
but who thought of that? cant imagine that it would stay in place if a HGV ran over you.
ive got a little t-shirt with cool dude written on it, but it goes to the little side back window, at which ever side the little fellow is on. but when hes not in the car it goes on the parcel shelf. i dont want some one wasting time looking for a kid that isnt there.
i think if you see a sign in the back of a car warning of kids and feel the need to keep your distance what does that say about that persons driving skills? i wouldnt take my son in the car if all he was going to do was distract me from driving, why bring a death wish to your own door?

Probably on urban myth, but this is on Yahoo! Answers:handyman wrote:why do you have one of those signs?
"It all started after a accident, a baby was in the back and was thrown from the vehicle into thick undergrowth, the driver was unconscious, it was only several hours later when family where informed and they asked how the baby was that anyone even new there was a baby in the car. People started to hand wright the signs the a firm probably cottoned on and thought hay ho easy money, now they are just annoying."

I ignore those signs.
Not my job to keep someone elses sprog safe in their car.
They should drive appropriately.
I reckon the emergency services don't take a lot of notice either as so many of the signs are left permanently fixed up.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"
She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
