Re-locate Ceiling Rose

Post by Fats »

Hi, im thinking of re-locating a ceiling rose, i was wondering what is the best way to do this. type of wire/connectors etc.. I have access to it from the room above.

Do i need to extend all the wires including the loop wires or just the wires that connect to the rose.

Also the pendant that is up at the moment has a twisted flex coming from it not the usual white flex, if this makes a differance?

As long as you have access to it from above, then the best way is to cut an access trap in ther floor board above to allow acceess to the junction box your going to have to install, then just run one new cable to your light position . Connect them all up in the 4 terminal junction box exactly as they are connected in your ceiling rose. The only difference willl be where the flex is now, will be your new L+N cable to the light. Earth goes with the rest of them.

The only thing that you might find is that you say its a twisted flex on the old pendant, that to me rings alarm bells as to the age of the installation and you may not have earths in your lighting circuit. But you will have to find that out by removing the cover.

If it isnt broke dont bloody touch it until it bloody well is and if it is broke then make drawing of the connections before you remove the broken one and replace with a new one LoL

If it the old twisted flex then I doubt there will be any loop wires there so it should be straight forward enough
