Fire Door Locking Mechanism* Please help!

Post by lukedouglassmith »

This is my first post! :D

I've been doing domestic repairs a while, but i've just been asked by JJB SPORTS to do some work for them.
I haven't got a clue whats gone wrong so far, I need some assistance.

This mechanism was jamming, basicly the tongue was loose, so i tightened the screw up and put it back together, but after going to the job and tightening up all the screws in the mech the mechanism is playing up again.

I think I ought to replace it...

Does anyone recognise the mechanism and know where i can get a new one from?

It's for a fire door in JJB SPORTS

Its a standard sashlock oval case.Get it from any good lock wholesalers.Best to fit something hardwearing if its getting a lot of use.

Looks like a Euro Mortice Sashlock. The oval case has a square polished or brushed face plate on it?

by the look of the sash bolt, its been striking something blue quite regularly. That'll damage the mechanism quite easily. Blame it on misuse. Say they really ought to use the handle when closing it, and not to let it slam shut.

Also, If you crack them open like you have, it voids the warranty. It affects Insurance as well. If you're not a qualified locksmith then their insurance brokers could blame you if there's ever a break in!

Either get good Insurance or cheaper...get a new lock!! They should be about £20-£30

I said it was an oval case because i was referring to the type of cylinder used.Look at the cylinder cutout its not euro shaped but oval shaped. If it was for a euro it would have little plastic inserts to support the euro or a euro profile shape.
A euro will fit this case but an oval wont fit a euro case.

Why companies try and save money by not calling a locksmith is beyond me especially when fire regs are concerned.

You have the latch return spring in the wrong place and it is catching on
the frame as the latch is opened

It should sit in a groove in the brass part of the latch
