Nokia N73 Slow

Post by ultimatehandyman »

For anyone that has a slow Nokia N73 this might help.

I have the Nokia N73 and it is ok, but not brilliant. The main reason I keep it is because it has Tom Tom installed and when used with a GPS receiver I can use it in the van as a Sat Nav.

A few days ago the phone was working really slowly and I was travelling to Blackpool and was using the phone as a sat nav. The battery had two bars remaining and so I switched on the charge function on my hands free kit, but it did not work and so the battery was completely drained. When I recharged it the phone was even slower and if I tried to open a message it took 10 minutes and then another 10 minutes to reply ::b

I was ready for sending it back to the shop as it was still under guarantee, but before I did I thought I would try and reinstall the software.

MAKE SURE YOUR BATTERY IS FULLY CHARGED BEFORE DOING ANY OF THIS.

To reinstall the software you will need a USB cable, this normally comes free with the phone. Make a backup of everything on your phone using Nokia PC suite- http://www.nokia.co.uk/A4630250

Then install and run Nokia software updater- http://www.nokia.co.uk/A4226014

This will check your phone to see if you have the latest version installed. I already had the latest version installed and so I chose to overwrite it anyway.

The phone restarted, and then I had to restart the computer ans the usb cable could not detect the phone. After restarting I reinstalled the backup which was made earlier using Nokia PC suite and the phone is working fine again now

also what can be done is stripping the network firmware off and replacing it with generic firmware (for example three are on 3. something, whereas the Hong Kong version is on 4. something and has bug fixes like sorting the blue photo tinting etc and its in english :-D )

If anyone wants to know how then let me know and I will explain all (bit technical but not that hard :) )
