Path at side of the house is too high, Rising damp
Post by sarahandannemarie »
Hi there
Been having this problem with damp for a while now had a bloke around yesterday and said that the path is too high and needs to be dug at least a ft down then external wall plastered and but clean chipping there for drainage.. our only problems is it not our land its our neighbours and there is a sewage pipe there too, so this may need relocating,This never came up on the survey that we had and by the look of things our neighbour as done this job himself, who is liable for the cost of this lovely job we have.
The bloke pointed out were the water is coming in, there are little cracks, is there anything i can fill those with for the time being so it dosent get any worst, and when we have a few dry days we will getr cracking on the job, also how much do you reckon this will cost, if its expensive we dont mind trying ourselve with a help from our friends.
Please help, If Ive left anything out let me know and I will help as much as I can
Thanks in Advance Sarah

If your neighbour has carried out work which has damagd the property you have bought then they MAY have been negligent and on these grounds your neighbour would be responsible for all repairs and remedial work to return the property to its undamaged state.
The big questions are to do with what was there before this work was carried out and exactly what did he change.
For that you are going to require someone on site who can assess the stuation properly. It's not the sort of thing that can be assessed at a distance. No amount of photographs, measurements and descriptions will cover all the bases like a site visit can. If someone gave you advice on here it would be based on an incomplete overview and something crucial might slip through unnioticed, potentially costing you thousands.
Having said all that, if you would lie to upload some pictures and measurements, along with some detils of the fabric of the house walls and the materials used in the path then maybe we can offer some generalised advice here.
