Consumer Unit (RCD) Connections

Post by Iggy13 »

I'm about to rewire my property and going to use a MK Split Load Consumer Unit which has been pre-wired. I understand all the good info taken from your home electrics guide but am confused as to what goes into the spare bottom hole in the RCD. The top 2 holes contain the live and neuteral terminal and the bottom one houses the neuteral terminal. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

the live and neutral at the top are from the suppliers meter, and the other terminals at the bottom, the neutral links to the neutral bar and the other hole is where the copper busbar will be connected to take the live to all of your circuit MCBs. If you are at all unsure, i would recommend getting an electrician involved as dealing with the mains is a potentially lethal thing to do, and should not be taken lightly. one loose connection and your house could burn down.

If it isnt broke dont bloody touch it until it bloody well is and if it is broke then make drawing of the connections before you remove the broken one and replace with a new one LoL

Thanks for your advice. It's just that i have rewired some time ago but never used a split load unit. Nonetheless, i will make sure before commencing any electrical work and if not happy, will get a sparky in.
