Hello, new to this forum and have a problem you may be able to shed some light on.
Recently moved into a new property and have taken out a tv, phone and broadband package with sky.
Last week i was told my phone line has been activated and can now start using sky talk and was given my new telephone number.
In my property there are four bt boxes on the walls, a master socket in the garage, a socket in the lounge, a socket in 1 bedroom and another master socket in the other bedroom which is not conected as the wires going to it have been cut.
If i plug a phone into any of the three working sockets i get a dialling tone, if i dial any number i get a pre-recorded voice saying 'the number you have dialled has not been recognised. If i dial the number sky gave me from my mobile it rings but the house phones do not.
I have tried the line test number (17070) and the pre-recorded voice gives my a different number for the circuit.
I have spent about four hours on the phone speaking to sky and they say their line checks report everything is ok.
Do you think there is a problem at the exchange? maybe my house has been connected to the wrong number! Your thoughts would be apprieciated, many thanks!

Hi and to UHM
I'm no communications expert, but it certainly sounds like BT has cocked up at the local exchange or Sky in connecting and/or allocating your new number.
I know nothing about sky talk, but is there a number you have to add to the front of the number you are calling when using sky?
What happens if you ring your old BT number?
