Drilled holes - Encourage or Discourage Damp?

Post by _Joel_ »

Hello,
I've just gone and drilled a couple of holes in my wall to ventilate a room... My wife is not happy(!) as she thinks it will encourage damp :angryfire: . Hmm. I'm not really sure myself  .

Please could someone let me know whether this was a bad idea? Possibly giving advice on how to remedy any potential problems? :help: Maybe I'll just have to try and 'undo' it??? (polyfilla? )

many thanks,
_Joel_

holes cannot cause damp anymore than an open window can
ventilation can of course remove moisture

if the hole is damp its because the bricks are wet or the rain has found the hole

how big is the hole and what sort off vent have you put on the outside and inside faces
we are all ------------------still learning

ah.. thanks for the replies. the holes are about 1cm in diameter.
I put one at the top of the room, and one at the bottom.
I haven't got anything attached... just drilled two holes in the wall!!

thanks!

I have a feeling a 1cm hole isn't going to do a lot of good, other than a private entrance for a few bees.

ya, I'd either fill it with mortar/plaster, or make a bigger hole and do it right.
