Damp proofing - damage to wall/ cables?

Post by smallclone »

Hi, just moving in to a new house and a few of the walls came up as needing "damp proof course" in the survey. This is fine, but what actually needs to be done? Is it a simple injection?

I ask because I need to get my telephone and television cables sorted in some of the walls and don't want to do this, only to find that they have to be ripped out because of the damp proofing procedure and re-installed by the cable company again.

its rising damp, and I believe they are solid walls. The property is about 100 years old.

Will a DPC mean that cable tv like Virgin Media will need to be installed?

Thanks

Depends if your having a chemically injected damp course if so the internal plaster will be hacked off to a height of 1m the wall will be drilled both sides and solution injected into them, The internal walls will then be replastered with a special base coat before a final top coat. You wont be able to decorate for at least a month.

You dont want to be burrying virgin cable on the wall btw

Thanks for that.

There is already an old NTL cable box on the wall, I assume it went through it?

Normally any effected plaster has to be removed from the wall, this is normally to an height of about 1 metre, but it could be higher or lower than this. No cables should be damaged as long as care is taken by the people removing the plaster and re-plastering.
