Hi from south London

Post by Richie »

Hi everyone....

Wow, this is weird for me as I run many website forums and now this is the first time I've actually wanted to join one and get stuck in :thumbright:

I've been a lurker for about 2 weeks now reading everything, laughing at some of it, crying at other parts of it (DIY Disasters) and have learned a lot in the last few weeks from this website....

Anyway, I just bought my first place in Croydon and should be moving in around April time so if nobody minds, how about some before and after progress using the info I find here (and a few other places)...

I'm quite happy to share my progress as its fun to see what other members have acheived (Or destroyed)
Anyway, nice to be here, to be here....... NICEEEEEEEE :thumbright:

hi and welcome richie. wonder if you can answer me a question.
in my muso days i played a gig in soho and came into london from the south due to playing in bournemouth the night before. i was asleep most of the way but i half woke up and looked out of the window and saw what i thought was the drabbest concrete jungle i had ever seen. i asked one of the band where were wer and im sure ( remember i was half asleep) he said it was croyen. i quickly went back to sleep.
all these years i have never returned and always wondered if it was really croyden.
if it was i hope you dont take offence as none is meant.

Hi Richie

Sound like you and me can swap a lot of notes..!

Hope the job goes well for you.

And I think Panlid was talking about Crawley. Affectionately known as Creepy to all us poor souls that worked there

I'd say Crawley was worse than Croydon.

We've got offices in both.

Croydon is just a general sprawl, but Crawley was a brave new 60's town build entirely out of prefab concrete.

The shopping precinct is a vision in pebble dash and paving slabs.

Hi guys

Thanks for the humungous welcome.... I was a bit surprised by the number of replies to a post like mine....

Croydon.... Concrete.... erm......

Central croydon can look a bit like any other town centre to be honest as I think a lot of town centres all look the same these days, but the suberbs of croydon can be really nice.

The part where our new house is (New addington) seems to be really green and surrounded by loads of fields and leafy roads which is such a nice change from the filthy streets of streatham where I live now :sleepy3:

New addington is surrounded by greenbelt land too so no major developments springing up on my new doorstep (Soon to be replaced)

Thanks UHMan, I use that avatar on all the forums I join so if you ever see it around, it might be me, I like it as it does give people a chuckle when they see it (Makes me laugh)

Slugster, would love to swap notes anytime, nothing better than saving a mate from disaster or getting stitched up. Not quite sure where we would swap notes on this forum yet but I was thinking of starting a thread in the showcase gallery if thats the most appropriate place...

Thanks for the pukka welcome....
Richie!
