Greetings from the bombsite

Post by Slugster »

Hi all,

Looks like a great forum so I thought I'd join up.

I'm nearly 40 and have taken on a fixer-upper as it's all I could afford after moving from Scotland to the Cotswolds.

The house was built in '52 and we're second owners from new.

The folk who had it built did virtually nothing to it so everything is being redone except for the structural brickwork. Every visible surface is being replaced (if it needs it or not - thanks to the wife ::b ) and all the services are being redone.

Doing the whole lot (except the gas and the skiming) myself.

Right now we're about 30% done and the place looks like Beirut only not as tidy.

Not a professional, just a self trained Extreme DIY'er

Just like UHM I learnt from my mistakes and now practice almost everything before trying it for real. That and a lot of common sense has saved me from too many disasters

Hope to have a good time here and not to annoy the old-timers too much.

Cheers...

Hi Slugster,

Welcome to UHM :thumbright:

Sounds like you are going to have some fun over the next few months!

Taking on a project like that can be a bit daunting at times, so stay focused and always take a few Hours out here and there for yourself.

Best of luck with your project

over the next few months
LOL - I wish it was only months.

The 30% has been achieved in the last 2 years...!!!!

I got through the 'it'll never be finished' stage about 6 months ago and now I just potter away doing stuff slowly and carefully and dreaming for the time there are more radiators than rooms ...
