damp between brick wall and plasterboard

Hi,

I have a brick wall at the rear of the house which became an internal one when a conservatory was built attached to it. I am going to be replacing wooden joists and the plasterboard attached to this wall, both of which were found to be damp and rotting as the roof above was leaking. The roof above is completely sealed now, and I want to avoid damp penetrating the plasterboard from the outside again.

I am thinking about adding a vapour barrier between the joists and plasterboard, is this alright or no longer necessary?

Hi Stu,

Why the timber? Could you not dot and dab the plasterboard on?

Check the DPC is OK, it would be worth taking some moisture readings of the wall and comparing it with another wall in your house.

As the wall is now internal. i see no need for a vapor barrier.

Hi Simon, I want to put some electrical backboxes into the wall so thought it will make things easier.

Stu,

If you want to fit back boxes, it might be cheaper to cut the masonry to accept the back boxes rather than stud and then plasterboard!
