Tiling to skirting

Post by uhoh! »

Just wondering what people do about the situation where, when you tile to skirting, you lose the top part of the profile of the skirting because the tile thickness covers it.

I'm about to fit new skirting and was wondering whether to put another strip of wood behind the skirting so that it retains it's correct profile. Sounds like a bit of a faff though, anyone have an opinion on this sort of thing?

Is the floor tiled? If so you could use a floor tile as a border instead of skirting

If you do that you might find the skirting protrudes out from the architrave which looks total shite !!

You will need to take architrave off, fit a plinth block then put architrave back on.

Tile down to floor then put skirting on. Finish with a properly tooled silicone joint between skirting and tiles.

Pack skirting away from wall, which doesn't take long to do, then tile down to it and finish with properly tooled silicone joint.
