Tiling a window surround

Hello,

I am tiling a bathroom with marble mosaics and just about to tile the window surround with the tile edges shown as they are solid marble. Where the vertical and horizontal tiles meet do the vertical sit on the horizontal (i.e. horizontal across the whole window sill) or do the vertical go top to bottom with the horizontal sitting next to it?

I suspect the answer to this question comes down to personal preference.

I normally have the horizontal ontop of the vertical, but I don't suppose it matters much. Perhaps if you do it the other way around the top tile may be prone to edge damage by people placing things in the window bottom

If your window is in the shower I always put an angle on the window sill so the water can run off back into the shower or you will have problems later on with water
