car window rear heater

Post by finest1 »

hi all, :help:

one of the connectors for my rear window heater snapped off. the lug bit ended up going down the wing. i've tried to connect it via soldering but the solder runs of the exsisting bit. i tried soldering on to the terminal that didn't work either. i was wondering if there is a "superglue" that bonds metal, and is also conductive. i was going to buy evo stick liquid metal, but found out last min that it was not conductive.

any ideas

many thanks

:salute:

Try soldering it with multicore solder and Bakers Fluid or Laco flux.

That would be the thin 1mm solder and a soldering iron.

The element is aluminium so soldering to it is difficult to say the least although you can (used to?) get 'alusol' from some electronic retailers.

You can conductive silver paint made specially for such circumstances. Getting a solid connection from it isn't easy though.

thanks for your quick replies :-P

problem is silver paint, according to maplins website, it will do the job, but it does not conduct electricity.

just to clarify it is not the actual element (parallel lines across window) that is broken, its the actual connector that starts the circuit, where usually hidden in the inner panels.

Silver paint (the stuff linked to) DOES conduct electrically......

If you get hold of a small square of copper coated board (printed circuit board material) say 1cm x 1cm, and glue this adjacent to the broken connection you can solder a wire to the copper surface of the baord and then liberally paint the gap between this board and the broken track.

Or, you could purchase a new screen.......
