Re: Best battery
You have not made it clear what use the battery is being put to.
There is the leisure battery which is designed for rapid charging and slow discharge as would occur on a caravan or boat where its used to power the system during darkness.
The vehicle battery is designed for deep discharge for just a few seconds during starting and then a rapid recharge .
If yours is just like a vehicle use then a car battery would probably be best.

It is used for powering equipment and external lighting for a van that is used maybe once a week. Does that help any?

Re: Best battery
In that case if the generator is to CHARGE the battery and then the battery is later used for powering things thna you should have a leisure battery!
But they are much more expensive than a vehicle battery and you may find a vehicle battery will be better value for your needs.

The generator itself should have a proper lead-acid start battery rated to match the starter motor. The rating is shown as 'CCA' on the battery (cold cranking amperage) but unless you have the technical detail for the starter motor you'll be unlikely to figure this out for yourself.
Take the whole unit to a proper battery centre (not Halfords or Kwik-fit etc, a PROPER battery centre - check yellow pages) and they'll drop in a fully charged battery that's meant to fit.
Plus side is that they know exactly what they are doing and you'll get good back-up service from them if there are subsequent problems.
It might sound an expensive solution but in my own experience the proper battery centres are no more expensive than the likes of Halfwits and they DO know what they are doing.

Don't take it personally......

Re: Best battery
Varta batteries are generally the best, if you can get one of the newer AGM types then all the better. Most British made batteries are junk. When the Brits still made cars, ff you go to anywhere cold you'd find stacks of new Lucas, Exide etc. batteries for sale cheap, dealers chucked them as a matter of course when selling the car fitting Varta, Bosch etc. instead.
