600x300 tiles

Post by craig1 »

Hi, need to tile my shower cubicle. Going to use Dunlop shower kit first to seal area. Whats the best adhesive and grout for this size tile.Have found a tub at B&Q Buildfix (Mapei) for showers. Or Dunlop from screwfix. Not sure about what grout to buy? also are 2mm spacers ok or should I use 3mm?

Any of the tub adhesives from the diy sheds will be useless for this size of tile. You really needto use a cementious based powder adhesive. The buildfix bagged adhesives from B+Q are made by mapei who are one of the leading makers of tile adhesives. As for grout , the buildfix flexible grout is excellent aswell. Make sure the adhesive is suitable for your tpe of tile, either ceramic or porcelain.

If it isnt broke dont bloody touch it until it bloody well is and if it is broke then make drawing of the connections before you remove the broken one and replace with a new one LoL

As SD said..

and,

gonna need at least a 12mm notch trowel, if not 20mm (preferably round notch) . Make sure adhesive is mixed to a consitency that will squash to form a full bed of adhesive behind the tile. Remove first tile you apply and check coverage. Would also be a good idea to butter the back of the each tile with a smear of adhesive also to improve your chances of getting a good bond.

Mapei is a good brand for adhesives. Their white grout isnt white tho (just in case that affects you)

2mm spacers should be fine. Spirit level and a rubber mallet might be useful to you :thumbright:

bagged adhesive from ardex/bal/weber/mapei for your tile.

always back butter your tile (over 250mm) this ensures 100% coverage to wall/floor.

Hi, ended up using 330x250 tiles. all tiles are up and ready to grout. I've noticed in the corner where the tiles meet (shower enclosure) a gap of only 0.5-1mm on two tiles. Is it worth replacing the tiles or should I grout and use silicon sealant in the corners anyway? using mapei flexible cemet based grout..

Internals should be siliconed, anyway so don't worry about the grout.

personally, I use Dow Corning 785 silicone. This is also preferred silicone of the majority of sealant application companies. If you are going for colour co-ordianted silicone to match tiles then mapei is good.

internals being inner corners of the wall where the tiles meet? great news, didn't fancy removing tiles. Will check out the corning silicone first. I'm after a light grey to match the grout. If not i'll get the mapei. Thanks very much for the advice!

Thats it, as in internal corners where tile meets tile.

Go with mapei. I think you have used mapei grout anyway so there make silicone will be bang on match.
