what is best to use to prepare plywood for tileing

can you please tell me what best products to use ,i have removed previous tiles,its an electric shower over bath wall,and due to budget i do the diy ,but dont mind paying that bit extra for the proper materials any help very much appreciated.

I wouldnt use plywood. I would use Aquapanel or Hardiebacker instead. If you must use ply, it should be min 15mm thick, WBP or marine, sealed on the reverse side and edges with SBR primer and screwed to a stable substrate.

thanks for the reply Rookery,hope this dont sound daft but what is SBR, also what do you think of bal products. And i love diy (no option really) but im just learning about foroum and computing as i go along! :oops: so thanks again :-)

SBR is a priming/bonding product. BAL Bond is one such. BAL is good quality gear although a little expensive.

as above for boarding your "wet area" use a 12.5mm cement based backerboard fitted to mfr instructions,then for rest of walls use a 12.5mm plasterboard...will last a lot longer than WBP PLY onto your walls.. :thumbright:
