Help with pitched roof/soffit construction

Post by Corky »

Anyone done a pitched roof using 8X2's or similar? I need some detail on the overhang and soffit construction, please if anyone has any photo's or links to a good web page? My plans are not good on detail but pitch is around 20 deg, around 3m long. Wall plate is resting on a box lintel with a 100mm cavity with 100mm block and 100mm brick. top of wall is flush with top of window frames.
I'm good at carpentry but need some idea on the shape required.

Have just had a flat to pitched roof fitted on extension and had the soffit extended to 18".

I watched it being built (extended) and from memory have sketched up the following.

Don't know if this is of use?

Hope you can follow it?

If you find any information please post some links. I've got a 8' x 10' extension with a flat roof which is now leaking badly and its probably going to be cost effective to put a pitched roof on rather than replace with flat again.

Not sure if I'll DIY it yet

ski, i have the same potential problem as you with my garage.

a quick call to building control at the local council might be an idea.

my garage is at the bottom of the garden but on the face of it i need planning permission.

god knows why because its out of view from the main road, its 40 foot from the back of my house and the neighburs on my street

AND its 70 something foot from the back of the houses on street paralell to mine

i hate local council officials just like everybody else BUT the strategy at my council is to ring between 9:15 and 10 oclock

mine are "on the phone" (drinking tea) until 9:15 and they leave the office at 10 to go on site vists

dont ring after 3 when they get back from site visits because they are "on the phone" or "doing paperwork" (gone home)
