unstable shed

helo all.
new fool with a tool here. i have put up a 12x16`shed. , BUT, i have not stabilized it properly. i would be very grateful for any information on securing this wonderful work of art, from the inside. i have a vague idea of diagonal, or horizontal braces, but i,m not sure about which would be best. or how to put them in properly. also, there may be a completly different way of doing this. so, if anyone would like to help out a unsure [ thinks he knows it all, according to her indoors. ] then i will be a very happy man to hear from you.

Putting the lid on should stabilise it considerably.

If it's a pre-made shed with the sides already clad it should be pretty stable once the four sides are screwed together at the corners.

hi ayjay, i,m just finding my way around the site.
i have built the shed from raw materials. 2x4 plaits, verticals, cornerposts and roof joists.
the roof is on, made of shuttering board panels.the ends and back are shiplap, 22mil.
i have only put one nail each end and middle inthe shiplap. i think i may need two? also,
the wood has shrunk, so i think i should redo it, and maybe use screws? the front is not boarded yet.
the amt. of play is about 4 inches at the roof end to end. what to do

do not use more than one fixing but place it about 1/4 from the bottom holding the top off the next plank firm whilst allowing expansion

temporarily screw 2 diagonals per side
then clad with 12mm ply walls and 6mm for roofs this will stop movement

another thought have you got a flat roof or "A" frame apex roof

hi big-all, thank you for the information. the roof is a very shallow apex. it is one foot at the point.

do you have a ridge beam [point to point] or "A"frames if a frames how far apart are they

hi big-all, i will have to describe the roof because i don,t know the correct name for it. there is a structure 12x16, it is 6.5 ft. high. at centre of the length there is a 2x4
bracing timber across the

12ft. gap. that has secured the sideways movement. i then put a short piece of 2x4 (10" ) on end, at the at the center of the end walls. i then fixed a 16 ft. 2x4 to these short pieces, and supported it in the middle on the 12ft.cross 2x4. i then put 6ft. rafters from the wall top plaits to the centre 16ft 2x4. this gave me structure to put large shuttering board roof on. i,m sorry about the long description, i hope i didn,t bore you.

once you have sheet material it will be solid as long as the walls at the bottom off the sloping roof are tied together
