about:blank virus

Post by sparkydude »

Hi all, it seems that my pc has picked up this about:blank virus.

most things work normally but if i go to any pages from oron ,filesonic zshare etc then all that appears in the address bar is about:blank

have done a bit of looking on tinternet and every site says different things.

Please can anyone give me a step by step guide as to how to remove this damn bug as its very frustrating .

Cheers

Nick
If it isnt broke dont bloody touch it until it bloody well is and if it is broke then make drawing of the connections before you remove the broken one and replace with a new one LoL

Download and install MBAM http://www.malwarebytes.org/ Let it update after installation and run a full scan. Post back the results.

Take a look at this http://www.pchell.com/support/aboutblank.shtml Try the automatic removal option first as the manual steps are quite involved.

Are you using Chrome browser? Some bugs reported with that browser ie some websites displaying about:blank.
If all your antispyware progams show no infection then try running winsockfix to fix any internet connectivity problems, and you could try restoring your system to a date prior to the problem.
Make sure you have no about:blank adware on your system. There is a help phone number towards the bottom of that webpage, which you could skype if not in nth america.

Tried the automatic way rich but no change , the adaware program finds 2 errors, but then asks you to buy the program for $29 to remove them. The manual weay seems to be very complicated but it looks like i dont have any choice but to try it. I am not running chrome at all so it cannot be that .

if i thought the adaware prog would fix it i would buy it but if its not going to help why waste the money .

any other options open to me ?
