Keeping spiders out?
It's going to start warming up soon - and I have a genuine dislike for creepy crawlers - does anyone have any advice on how to keep them out the house?

According to the InterWeb, putting down chestnuts will keep spiders away. ![Thumbright :thumbright:](./images/smilies/icon_thumleft.gif)

Errrrmmmm..... I could be wrong (According to Mrs. Wine~o I normally am) but I think it's Horse chestnuts that keeps Spiders out...
.......The good news is that they move in over Winter...so they'll be leaving come the warmer weather..

Re: Keeping spiders out?
Try spraying all of your carpets with "Acclaim" - it's a flea spray but it's extremely effective at keeping out all spiders. Not cheap at ~£15 per can, but the effects last for a long time. It's available readily enough, try Boots, pet stores, vets etc.
The one caveat is I'm sure if there is any similar product that is more effective these days? I know that the tick & flea treatments that you use directly on animals are periodically updated as the pests become resistant over time and different poisons are required to be fully effective.

Re: Keeping spiders out?
Might be an old wifes tale but, we put/keep conkers in each corner of window cills and by the sides of doors.
We hardly ever see any spiders in the house, change the conkers every year.
Might take a while to work if you already have a load of spiders in the house.
To get rid of the ones in the house, put some pepper on each conker, when the spider comes along and sniffs it, he sneezes, hits his head on the conker and knocks himself out.![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

Re: Keeping spiders out?
Conkers definitely work. Put a couple in every corner in every room. Apparently spiders stay well away from them. Mrs d'A has got them all over our house.
You really need to get them in the autumn though. They will last all year.

Do your guests look at you funny like, when they see 500 conkers hanging from the lounge ceiling.

Re: Keeping spiders out?
I must be odd, I dont mind spiders
might be because I used to live right next to the river though and had serious issues with midges keep coming in on those humid nights
still I prefer spiders to bugs, and yes, I am houseproud, just if I see a spider there's obviously a food source so I leave 'em be

Re: Keeping spiders out?
Why do spiders mostly crawl on ceilings or walls, is it because their creator made them that way, or are they just showing off??... ![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

Re: Keeping spiders out?
I reckon they're just showing off. same the game of hide and seek they play, as they stroll slowly when you're looking at them, yet scarper as soon as you take your eyes away ![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)
still don't mind 'em though![Wink ](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
