Hi
I have decided to tile my kitchen with mosaic tiles. I thought it would be easy as the tiles are on backing paper which can be cut with a sharp knife. The only problem is that the tiles are approc 20mm square and they don't cut where I need them to, so I need to cut the individual tiles!
As they are so small I am really struggling as a regular tile cutter will not cut them and a diamond tipped tile cutting machine is dangerous as your fingers are so close to the blade.
Is there a easy way to cut these tiles?
Thanks
Stella

a easy way to cut mosaic tiles

You can cut mosaic tiles with a pair of nibblers, just nibble away at the bits of tile that need removing, I did this with my bathroom tiles and is easy once you get used to doing it

Re: how to cut mosaic tiles
The art of Mosaics 'Patience' to an experienced tiler just nipping them in the correct position will snap them in the desired position, but as a one off i would suggest using the wet cutter for d.i.y.ers, the wet cutting blade will not cut you, you can squeeze the blade between finger and thumb while running and it won't break the skin ( in my experience 17 years )..if you have a wet cutter..adjust the guide to the desired position and push slowly, it will be slower than nipping with tile nippers, but the quality of the job is more important than speed... Patience, hence the cost of fixing mosaics...stella wrote:Hi

That sounds a bit dangerous for me, are you sure a diamond blade in a wet machine will not cut flesh?m3 fitter wrote:The art of Mosaics 'Patience' to an experienced tiler just nipping them in the correct position will snap them in the desired position, but as a one off i would suggest using the wet cutter for d.i.y.ers, the wet cutting blade will not cut you, you can squeeze the blade between finger and thumb while running and it won't break the skin ( in my experience 17 years )..if you have a wet cutter..adjust the guide to the desired position and push slowly, it will be slower than nipping with tile nippers, but the quality of the job is more important than speed... haven't cut myself yet and for a party piece for apprentices, i grip the blade while its running, make them look with horror, i dare say if you try and cut yourself you will as its moving metal / gritted... but as regard to the original question.. its possible to cut down mosaic's 20mm with relatively no danger
