USB FLASH DRIVE CONFIGURATION
When I use my Verbatim 4 GB Flash Drive there is no problem, but when I plugged in a new Sandisk 64 GB Flash Drive it was not recognised, even though a driver was downloaded for it.What am I doing wrong?.

Re: USB FLASH DRIVE CONFIGURATION
Try leaving it in the USB socket for longer..... I've found that the larger the device, the longer the PC seems to take to recognise it.
Failing that you need to go into start/control panel/administrative tools/computer management and see if the device is 'there' and then 'mount' it (right click on the device - if it's shown - and allocate it a drive letter).

Just wondering have you got USB 1 or USB 2, also can you try it in another pc?

Re: USB FLASH DRIVE CONFIGURATION
Could be a dodgy device - where did you purchase it? many of the higher capacity devices have lots of 'fakes' on the market and eBay are a sad source of too many of them. They've even been reported outside of eBay so if you purchased it through a regular source then look for an exchange under warranty.

Re: USB FLASH DRIVE CONFIGURATION
Bought it from PC World and it was tested in store.Someone told me that my computer is configured for the Verbatim 4 GB Flash Drive and to make the new one work that will have to be configured to my computer, but I don't know how to do that.

Re: USB FLASH DRIVE CONFIGURATION
Is the drive USB3 (as opposed to USB2)? There are many reports for USB3 not working (backwards compatibility) with USB2 ports even though they are supposed to be ok.

Re: USB FLASH DRIVE CONFIGURATION
That address Cannyfixit gave me may just be the solution. When I first had a look at it I failed to understand what it was about but when eventually it percolated through my thick skull it dawned on me that the new usb was using the same letter F as the old usb. When I have a bit of time available will give it a try and let you know how I fared.Sorry for being so long in replying.

Re: USB FLASH DRIVE CONFIGURATION
Drive letters are allocated as they are made available and removing one thumb drive and replacing it with another 'should' just reallocate the original drive letter i.e. any time you stick a USB key in it will appear as 'F' - if you stick TWO devices in they will be F and G. It is unusual for individual USB sticks to have a 'fixed' drive letter.....

Re: USB FLASH DRIVE CONFIGURATION
Just a thought - plug in the 4Gb device and then BEFORE YOU REMOVE IT, right-click on the USB icon in the task bar and select 'safely remove USB device' (unless you already do this of course - not many people do!). If the drive letter is 'fixed' then doing this should delete it's setting and allow another device to be allocated to it.

Re: USB FLASH DRIVE CONFIGURATION
Thanks, but I do religiously click on eject before removing any plugin. What baffles me is that the usb shows in computer and disk management but when I try to download files to it when it is plugged in it only shows the designation lettter of the old usb and says:-Disconnected.
