whilst I have your attention i thought it might be a good idea to ask about something else i'm yet to work out: tiled skirting.
I'm only tiling one main wall and partially across the two adjoining walls - they finish at the window and doorway- but am planning on creating a tiled skirting round all the room as I don't think a wooden/mdf skirting will look right. I've decided to do the skirting in the floor tiles which are likely to be bigger, 333mm, rather than using the walls tiles - the reason being that the wall tiles are going to be quite bright, everything else painted white and the floors in white so it will look a bit out there continuing a bright border round the whole room. The plan was to cut down the floor tiles to get two 10-12cm tiles for the skirting. Assuming that the floor is not completely level and I want to keep the tops of the tiles/skirting level it will mean scribing the tiles to meet the floor. Depending on how out of level the floor is it may be better to use a thicker skirting - say 15cm to compensate for the areas where there will be large cuts made. I'm not a big fan of edging strip and so since the floor tiles are very pale/almost white i think i can get away with leaving them as the finished edge and maybe painting them. The thing i'm unsure about is the areas where i wish to tile the walls - the depth of the wall tiles are 6mm and the floor tiles will likely be 10mm (i guess, i haven't chosent them for certain yet). This will mean that there will be a slight lip where the wall tiles sits on the skirting, albeit with a small grout gap between. Will this look odd? It seems a bit pointless to use edging strip as the majority of it will be hidden anyway. Also, there's only going to be a very small portion of wall where the tiles and skirting together are exposed so i'm thinking it may not be that noticeable anyway.
Any thoughts appreciated? The alternative of course is to use the wall tiles as the skirting, maybe choosing a lighter colour/similar colour to the floor tiles.

I would go with 100mm upstand for the skirting at most. No need for trims. As you suggets, they can be painted in to match the wall along the top edge. You might want to use a good caulk or mastic along the wall joint first though. Leaves a neater finish when carrying the paint down from the wall and onto the tile edge.
