The sniping I'm referring to is a program that these people install, which fires a bid into an ebay auction at the ver last minute. They have servers synchronised with the ebay servers so that they can literally time it to the millisecoond, therefore ensuring that anyone else (even if they have a higher max bid set) does not get a chance to respond. Its happened to me loads of times.

A google search brings up lots of such downloads, here's one:

I appreciate that I cannot "decide" whats going to be done with it in the future, but sometimes you got to trust your instincts, and if it was mine to donate to a museum or similar, I may be tempted. Unfortunately my friend has to raise a much as poss to fund care home fees for her mum.

If it’s down to money then its eBay, if it goes to a local auction a dealer will buy it and put it on eBay. To be honest the myford ml8 is rubbish but ok for a starter lathe better than new Chinese junk. Put it on eBay buy now with best offer and it will only cost .40p for a month. Put it on for £700.00 and see what you are offered.

You could try advertising it her:

http://www.homeworkshop.org.uk

This is a site set up by model engineers to trade tools and equipment.

No fees payable - it is just an advertising site.

may be slightly off topic but how hard would it be for the programmer who writes the ebay code to slip something like this in there...

If timeleft < 10 seconds AND bid received THEN LET timeleft=timeleft+10 seconds

for those that dont get pseudo code or computer language in general thats about as simple as it should be to extend the auction time by 10 seconds if someone chucks a bid in with less than 10 seconds left to run thereby making 'sniping' a thing of the past...

maybe the 'flaw' in ebays design was 'built in' for a more sinister reason?
All my advice should be taken with a rather large pinch of salt, all the gear, absolutely no idea whatsoever ;)

Did the lathe sell?

cwplastering....that extra ten seconds wouldn`t buy the punter who is busy at auction`s close any useable time would it?
I reckon ebay leave these services alone because at least bids are being generated and shekels coming in to them and their painpal.
Long live Snipes.
