Satellite system

Post by kellys_eye »

I found myself in a little pickle the other day when the LNB on the sat dish to the static caravan (guest accommodation) went mammaries skyward as I didn't have a spare lying around.

Out shopping today I stumbled across a Satellite system setup (freeview, standard definition) at Aldi. Dish, receiver, remote control etc but what surprised me was that the kit also included a sat finder, a compass (pretty decent one too) and 10m of antenna cable, wall bolts and cable clips! All for £24.99 :? Everything you could possibly need to fit a freesat TV system up!

The LNB has been changed (would have cost me £6- £10 for one off eBay), the dish properly aligned and the 'spare' sat receiver is now connected to a TV set in the bedroom! The sat receiver would have set me back £30 (Tesco) on its own!

I've also got a spare dish!

 not a bad idea - I do a mean seafood paella myself.

Might try it out as a 'big ear' to listen to people on the other side of the loch (about 1/2 mile). I'm in the local 'loch watch' scheme where we have to keep an eye on visitors that (might) get into trouble on/in the loch. The farmer that works over the other side often swears blue murder, effin' and blindin' at his sheep dog and we've mistakenly thought it was people in distress shouting for help! The dish, fitted with a microphone, could hear the dog farting!

It's great to 'play' with stuff..... I've a sh1tload of it in my workshop

I might go and take a punt and buy one.....my mothering law lives in a ground floor flat with only an internal antenna .......hopefully this might be a better solution !

Bargain!!

Not a freesat box then, but a satellite box? I'm guessing it just spews all the channels into a gert big list whereas Freesat will offer local channels and some order to the chaos?

good deal though. Is it a single LNB?

If anyone needs one installing, found a good way of getting it done.......goto Tesco Direct and buy their Manhatten package for 90 quid. Freesat box and includes free dish and installation in the price!!!!! Can't get better than that.

I done my own, not hard if you've done one before....just takes patience!

TBH I haven't flashed up the freesat receiver so can't comment on the way the programs are listed but I suspect you're right and that it will throw up the usual mish-mash. That shouldn't pose a problem as you can usually go through the listings and edit them to tidy it up.

I'll plug the new receiver in tomorrow and see what we get.

Yes, it's a single LNB jobby...... £24.99 all-in and you want a DUAL LNB? Greedy!

I actually have a sat-finder I purchased a few years ago but couldn't, for the life of me, find it amongst all the sh1t in my workshop  so seeing a freebie in the kit was a real bonus and made alignment a total breeze - took about 5 minutes all-in.
