Henry Vacuum bag recycle
Hi
I just carefully unpicked the bottom of a full Numatic Henry vacuum bag. It's not the end you push onto the pipe in the machine - its the other end. It had been sealed by folding, gluing, folding and again gluing. I was careful not to tear any part of the bag. Once open, I emptied it in the big outside big. I then dusted away any dust that had got onto the parts that would need to be re-glued. I sprayed these folds with some spay glue I had under the sink. I sprayed outside due to the potential mess. I folded the ends of the bag back as they had been and allow time for the glue to set, weighted under an old yellow pages.
When the glue had fully set, I re-installed the empty bag. Works like a dream!
Time taken: 5 - 7 mins
Money saved: 50p - £1
Satisfaction level: 100%

Re: Henry Vacuum bag recycle
Waste of time and money.
First of all you need to have "some glue" around, and spray glue is not that cheap.
But the real problem is the bag. If you look under a microscope you will see that the bag itself is full of tiny holes, they are there so the air can pass through the bag. The thing is, they also catch dirt. The dirt blocks up the holes so making it less efficient and putting more stain on the motor, which not only costs more it speeds up the rate at which the motor will fail.
So for the sake of a what you think is a 50p bag, its just not worth it. You can get bags for 29p each if you go HERE Probably other places supply them cheaper too.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

Re: Henry Vacuum bag recycle
I've clearly underestimated the science involved - I'll get the bag to the lab pronto and check out those holes. In the meantime, if anyone is bored enough to prat about with this idea, go ahead cause it worked just as well as a new bag. I live in a very rural area and was caught short without a handy spare bag and guests expect at any moment - I really, really needed to vacuum and thought I was being quite clever finding a solution using what I happened to have in the house. If you don't have glue (doesn't have to be spray, was all I had) I would guess that duct tape or other tape would work just as well. Well done me!

Re: Henry Vacuum bag recycle
A long time ago we had an upright Hoover, it had a bag you could empty: the bag was closed by multiple folds at the end and these were held in place by a *U* section plastic piece the same width as the bag, after a time using the same bag it did become noticeably less efficient and the bag would then be changed for a new one, so, probably worthwhile filling the bag more than once - but don't get too attached to them.
One day it will all be firewood.

Re: Henry Vacuum bag recycle
they don't get arsie on here but we do usually offer advise to those that ask for it. if you look through each forum you may see that posts don't generally give the advise without it being asked. however, this is probably the only forum board that works in the opposite way. the thing is though, the advise tends to warrant a good saving and i can really understand why some have said "why bother", to save £0.50-£1 doesn't really take me on holiday.
the main point i would add though, i doubt you have trade experience with a Henry because we all take the bags out. they are useless because the 1st bit of brick you suck up rips through the bag. i have had about 4 Henry's in 20+ years. it is always the motor that goes but £100 odd quid for 5 years ain't bad. it is by far the best work horse for cleaning up trade mess.

Re: Henry Vacuum bag recycle
To save poncing around with the glue you could use clothes pegs clamped around the refolded bag end? That way you could get a number of reuses until the micropores become so clogged it is knackered.

Re: Henry Vacuum bag recycle
Henry use to come with a washable filter but in their wisdom then changed to a cloth type and put that annoying Eco button on them (must get round to by-passing that!). I normally get the larger numatic bags, cut it open so it's flat, lay across the top of his stomach, filter back on, then clamp in place with Henry's head.
Takes seconds to whip his head off, empty then place the flattened bag back over the top. None off this messing around unpicking bags and re-glueing.

I use Henry hepa bags in my festool mini, I reuse easy bag a few times just Stanley open the bottom of the bag empty then staple together, I can go thru a few bags a day sometimes with planer chippings
