Health and safety being silly, examples.

Post by Someone-Else »

I thought I would start a new topic after noticing a comment about wearing a high vis and safety boots to go to a tip. What's the most silliest example of H & S you have had?

Couple of weeks ago I missed a parcel delivery so I went to the local delivery company office to collect said parcel. Drove in parked in visitors bay next to sign that said office / visitors. Security guard in hut by entrance shouted to come over to him, so I had to walk back from my car across loading area and he said "You can't go in there mate without a high vis" so he gave me a high vis (signed for) so I walked back again (now wearing high vis) opened the door walked upstairs, to office, got parcel, put parcel in car, took high vis off walked back across loading area, gave high vis back walked back to car and drove off.

No, I don't see why I need a high vis to walk upstairs inside a building to an office either.
Above are my opinions Below is my signature.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

Second fixing in full PPE, hard hat, gloves, goggles, and everything else, the whole works. Fortunately it was only for a week, I don't think I would have done any more anyway.
One day it will all be firewood.

On a pub refurb, years ago. . Scaffolding outside had been dropped and the site foreman insisted we wore full PPE whilst working indoors, installing the bar area/seating. WTF did he think was going to fall on peoples heads indoors?????

I feel exactly the same, we're doing new builds (they aren't actually that bad) and the site agent and his "health and safety co ordinator" insist that we keep everything on when we're inside using chop saws paslodes drills etc. If I'm walking around I have all of my gear on but if I'm inside a plot then I'm only ever in my hi vis and boots. Another thing aswell, last month we were finishing a student accommodation site off in Liverpool city centre. The exterior work - trespa cladding, rendering, decking and the atrium ceilings - wasn't done, yet they moved students in. We had students in flip-flops and t-shirts stepping over us whilst we were ripping stuff down with skill saws, all this for us in 6 point PPE. My guess is that health and safety will only get worse.
