Latex self levelling installation

Post by Wes »

Nothing spectacular chaps/chapessess but thought I'd drop a little preparation work I did the other day. In the pictures is freshly laid Arditex NA latex based self levelling compound. Just needs to dry then it's ready to receive some electric underfloor heating and a nice Berry Alloc laminate with matching skirting.

I'll post the pics of that in a separate thread when it's done :thumbright: For the smart a*ses, it's the camera angle and masking tape at the back doors that makes the floor seem out..It's as flat as my back tyre after I brought all the bags of levelling to the house

Bootiful.....

I know this sounds silly, but what else did you do to get it so smooth ?

Not a silly question at all mate..

The process for this floor was a 3 mm smoothing and levelling layer of Arditex NA on to the original, all over the place fresh concrete. Then a liquid dpm (Ardex dpm 1 C). That acted as an excellent primer for the final coat (Arditex NA) that you can see here. I've explained that because priming is absolutely key!! If the surface doesn't have a decent primer it causes so many problems (suction & pin holing) when installing the final coat.

Anyway, the final coat was installed in sections and quickly as I was on my own  You need a good eye with a float to spread the self levelling equally and then running over it with a spiked roller really helps to spread the compound even more equally, helps fuse the sections and gets rid of pin holes..Good preparation helps too..Having bags opened ready and latex bottles shaked well and open is a big bonus :-)

It also really helped that the room was cool. Conservatories or any room in summer for that matter can be a real nightmare and dry out the self levelling before it's levelled..

Seems a shame to cover it up with laminate - give it a coat of floor paint.

A bit skinny for your tastes maybe Wes, but she'll show you how to do it.
