Yes, had an email from Lawson-HIS regarding these and have my eye on the 18v to complement the other 18v Makita tools I have. The old PMF-180 is showing its age and ear piercingly noisy and have been thinking of getting a replacement.

Would also be very interested in others reviews and any offers going, prices are a bit steep for me at the moment so will have to wait for the inevitable pricing war........hopefully

Has anyone got one of these Mak 18v cordless multi tools and are they any good please?

Looking to get one soon, I have plenty batteries so bare tool only, i.e. no worries about extra expense for the batteries, or if they're not good then maybe it's better to get a corded one?

Also do the Bosch blades fit the mak machines?

Yes I have the 18v and its excellent. Very comfortable to use and battery use is very good. Don't think the Bosch blades fit but I can highly recommend the blades from Saxon blades online which fit perfectly and are very good value for top notch blades.

I use the multi tool quite often for window repairs and also general carpentry and diy tasks.

PK, well I don't have one of these, but I recently got the chance to use one side by side with my Fein FMM250Q multi tool. The blades we were using were Saxons which fitted both, but as everyone seems to be doing conversion disks for under £5 these days I don't see the blade mounting as much of an issue.

Thoughts? Fit and finish on the Mak isn't bad, not as nice as the Fein, but deffinitely better than a Black & Decker IMHO.

Noise? Well the noise and vibration level are similar between the two; I feel that most of the noise comes from the material being sawn and the blades in any case.

Balance? The Fein hads slightly better balance, I feel because there isn't a battery pack at the back end like the makita cordless, and that battery might get in the way on a few cuts (although none I did) - even there much of that issue could be overcome by using the shorter, lighter 14.4 volt battery packs.

Speed of cutting? There really wasn't much in it between the to.

Battery life? I managed a respectable 8 cut-outs for double back boxes in 20mm softwood matchboard on an 18 volt 3.0Ah battery without flattening it, although I didn't take it all the way to flat and it was slowing down towards the end.

The biggest plus the Fein had over the Mak was the quick-change mechanism for the blades, but I do have the "Q" model which costs extra for that feature and TBH I could live without it.

Will I buy one? Probably at some point in the future, more especially as I'm already committed to the Makita 18 volt Li-Ion range and have batteries and chargers so a bare unit is much more of a no-brainer and a cordless "go-anywhere" multi-tool would be really useful at the end of projects where there are loads of odds and ends to tidy up (I do interiior fit-outs, i.e. shops, pubs, hotels, restaurants, etc)

Not a full review, but what do you expect from 50 minutes of use?

Cheers chaps, that's good enough for me to get one. Same as you J and K once you have a bag full of batteries and chargers the tools themselves aren't that expensive so the collection keeps on growing. It's not something that will get used every day, but will be very handy to have in the bag for the times when you do need one!

Got it now and it's brilliant! Would highly recommend them, it's already been used about 10 times since the Christmas break, once you have one you realise how useful they are, there's all sorts of jobs that you do somehow or another but that's the tool for awkward little trims or cuts,

i thought about it for ages before i got my multi master. cant beleive how much iv used it since. my mate has a dewalt and he got his off my recommendation for a multi tool and he was like wow there class. id imagine the mak and bosch to be equally as good and they all seem to be good prices

I have the 18v BTM50 and the performance is as good as a corded multitool. The battery will last about 20-25 minutes of constant cutting at high speed but the tool does get hot fairly quickly so I give it a rest occasionally.
