fitting dimmer switch to existing 2 way lighting circuit
Post by bardav2000 »
The 2 way circuit is working perfectly well with the existing on/off switches, but when I replaced one switch with a dimmer unit, the circuit will only work from the other switch. Any ideas?

Are you sure that the dimmer switch is a two way dimmer switch and what kind of light fitting is it?
Some lights are not compatible with dimmers!

It is definately a 2 way dimmer and the lights are fitted with standard 40 watt candle bulbs

I'm no expert but I would be looking at a faulty dimmer switch. Can you test it on a 1 way circuit and see if it works?

More than likely you connected it up wrong.
Have a look at the other switch and see where the 3 core is connected into which terminals and then do the same with the dimmer
