Evening all

Would appreciate some feedback please - its a question that has been asked 1000 times before.

We are in the process of buying a new kitchen for our soon to be completed extension.

I have in my head a rough idea of what type of layout is achievable - based on a U shaped layout.

We have been to three local suppliers and am waiting prices, ideas etc.

One has come back super quick (within 24 hours) with a budget price although I am still waiting for the plans etc to tweak/amend/upgrade. They were keen to push a model by Eco Kitchens (JJO plc) and the initial figure seems very competitive.

So any feedback on Eco Kitchens out there please?

We were taken by a Crown Midsummer at one of the other showrooms (painted finish type) but were advised that they also supply a vinyl wrapped door to match which was more competitive in price, however looking on t'interweb I feel this may be too pricey (£1500 for a larder cupboard ).

I had considered DIY kitchens but Mrs Modulus is dubious of buying everything of the web

Any advice on Eco kitchens appreciated.

Those units look cheap and basic. Firms do not want to give you the layout plan as you can use their work to price other suppliers offerings. I would do a bit of work yourself and plan out the cabinet layout you want to suit power and services in the extension. Carefully measure the walls and calculate the run of units. This will give you a much better idea of a shopping list so you can have a look and see what quality of cabinets you can get for the price. I was recently looking at Wren units in a store that has opened near me and I have to say that they are pretty good units and a fair price. Wren kitchens are 5hite!

More labour time to install. Units out of square and they don't always square up! Gloss panels are only gloss on one side etc etc.

Bringing MFI 5hite and principles back to the UK.

Totally agree that wren kitchens are guff,loads of missing components when kitchens are delivered and the quality is questionable to say the least.
People will knock howdens but I find if they are fitted properly and good quality appliances are used instead of the Lamona they supply you'll end up with a nice kitchen.
Any problems are easily sorted as they carry a lot of stock with branches in most towns.

ive not fitted a wren kitchen. i mainly fit howdens and have never had a problem with them,.

Thanks for the responses so far and apologies for taking a full 10 days to reply

Things been a bit full on - knock through from extension to main part of house so plenty of taping up doors and hoovering up.
Also had two ill kids and Mrs M was under the weather as well. Was also appealing against an unfair (imo) parking ticket (will post outcome in grumpy section), more dusting and hovering up.
Discussing first fix electrics, hoovering, washing machine breaking down, more hoovering, working 9 to 5 (might be a song there just need to work on my moobs though) and checking out a second layout and price of a kitchen.

Did I mention hoovering up?

To summarise the second of the three local suppliers got back in touch with a price for a Crown Imperial. Given the polarised opinions on kitchens thus far I think we will just have to go with our instincts - at the moment the Crown is edging it.

Thankfully the third supplier hasn't bothered to get back in touch so no need to consider another model. Plus if he can't be ar$ed to even give a courtesy call saying he isn't providing me with any details I wont be spending there.

Thanks for the input but realistically its like asking which car should I buy - I'll get ten different and valid responses.

On a final note I don't buy kitchens that often but I think it is made deliberately confusing by all the various specs/prices/finishes.

For anyone interested enough, Eco are made by JJO and JJO are J & J Ormerod plc in Bacup, Rossendale, Lancashire who are a fairly large outfit (based on the fact that they have half a dozen mills and a fleet of large, modern waggons). They have a retail showroom on the main road in Stacksteads where most of their ranges can be viewed. I'd say their quality was low to middle market, however despite living fairly close I've never installed one of theirs. They also manufacture Colonial kitchens

i use ECO by JJo , and for the price find them good .. 8 mm backs in everything , they assemble well , and if fitted by a kitchen fitter then there are no problems , better that B&Q in quality and much the same price .. good choice of doors and the finish is good . colonial also good units . I would class JJo as middle market stuff.. even a great quality kitchen fitted by someone who does not know how to install could end up looking awful .

Dunno know about Eco but because i am new here and this is my first post, I know of a kitchen company that does good kitchen design and the lot. One of my friends recommended it to me when I was thinking about getting mine done. Ran into money problems so couldn't go ahead with it but this the designs were certainly appealing. They company is called removed Mod 2. Granite Worktops.

Have a look on the site to see if that is what you fancy. They specialise in Granite, Quartz and Marble worktops, available in different colours and design patterns. They even cut those granite, quartz and marble worktops to fit in your current layout of your kitchen area. The installation timescale was within one week but you may wanna double check it yourself if you decide to contact them, depending on your location.
