Finding a tiler

project kitchen is finally ready for some floor tiles which I have already bought, the problem is finding a tiler. I normally use trades through recommendation but having asked everyone I know no one seems to know a tiler.

So I use google to find tilers, preferring to contact tilers with websites so I can see their work, out of all that I have contacted only 2 have come round for quotes and they haven't even got back to me.

It's approximately 17sqm of tiles plus installation of electric underfloor heating.
I'm based just south of sevenoaks in kent if anyone on here wants to come and quote.

My advice to you is if someone can do it in the next couple of weeks then stay clear as they are quiet for a reason. Saying that there's a possibility because of the time of year they are genuinely quiet.

I only say this due to a bad experience I had when I had a similar problem to yours and after getting nagged from the ex I managed to get a tiler who could do the job the following week. Unfortunately the tiler was sh*t and made a proper mess of my bathroom.

There were two good tilers who were willing to do the job but it meant I'd have to wait two months which my ex wouldn't accept.

To be fair thats just a silly comment. Just because a tiler isn't booked out doesn't mean he's not capable of doing a great job! there could be a million reasons why a great tiler can call and can start the next day. His other job booked in could be held back, another job could be canceled but cant start his next one untill said date or like i said, a million reasons.

Absolutely correct but it's a big gamble if you:

Don't know the guy
Haven't seen their work
Can do the job quite quickly

Every good tradesman I know is fully booked ahead for at least a month just now.

It's a big gamble to take and chances are you'll end up with a cowboy but you crack on

I had the same problem a few years back when I was looking for an electrician. If I were you I'd just badger him until he shows.

It's probably too late, but you could ask at a reputable kitchen and/or bathroom shop that does the supply and install. They will have trades they use, and they would not employ a muppet, assuming the shop has a good reputation. I got a tiler this way, he did a good job of a kitchen floor. Not cheap, but I'd rather pay over the odds, than get a bodger. (I'd rather have done it myself, but I was told big floor tiles are tough to do well.)

Not necessarily, my aunt had a couple of guys in from B&Q to fit her kitchen and I'd swear it was installed by Statler And Waldorf!

To be fair he did say a reputable kitchen / bathroom shop which I wouldn't class B&Q as being. Far better approaching a local independent store.

But any decent person will be booked up, I've lost track of the number of people who ring up wanting work done ASAP, although I do try to keep some gaps in my diary for fitting in the odd little job.
