Dodgy Windows 7 = no 10

Post by tombarry »

Hi thought I was using a legit version of Windows 7 over the years,
but after not receiving the invite for the Windows 10 update I got suspicious  (a bit late) looking closely with a magnifying glass and with the aid of Microsoft’s web site 'what to look for ‘I could see what lengths they had gone to forge the disc, box & hologram. Failed and blocked when trying to verify the numbers- Think I bought it online but can’t find a record of purchase, so I guess I’ll have to purchase Windows 10 from Microsoft this time  … So Fooled again but As the great Terry Thomas put it –“You’re an absolute shower.”

All depends - if you bought a full retail version and it fails the test, then yes, it was a forgery. If you had bought an OEM version (which many small builders of PCs do), then that will also fail as MS don't count that as a full (MS-tax paid) version. A bit mean, I know.

I am holding off for a long time on Windows 10 - after all, the support for Windows 7 goes through to 2020. Give them time to iron out the inevitable bugs and update bugs, and then make the decision. In fact, the whole extended family seems to favour Android-based tablets nowadays, and there don't seem to be snafus with that operating system.
