Ceiling light with a pull cord switch.

Hi can anyone help with how to install a ceiling light with the old colours,the pull cord has the old colours,but the new light fitting has the new colours.

It should be pretty simple-

old colours.........new colours

RED...................BROWN
BLACK................BLUE

Thanks but done all that and light was fine yesterday but when we pulled the switch to go off it keeps tripping the circuit breaker for lights.!!

Can you tell us what wires you have at the ceiling rose and what wires you have in your new light?

If possible some pictures would be a great help.

Black/red/Earth in rose,same in wire for pull switch.....and blue/brown and earth in light

do you just have one red, one black and one earth in the rose?

Are none of the wires wrapped in insulation tape?

The wires havent been touched from whoever installed the pull switch in the past,so have taken a picture,cant really get to see much at the moment without pulling it right out.

Think will have to give up til tomorrow

It is probably wired like this-

So connect the two reds together in a terminal connector and then put one black that looks like it comes from the pull cord switch to the brown on the new fitting and wrap the wire with red tape and then put the other black wire to the blue wire on the new fitting and it should work.
