Wickes Kitchen cupboards

Post by jimsav57 »

Hi All

I have just started fitting my new wickes kitchen and have come up against something i find quite surprising, and would appreciate some advice/comments.

I have put together both a wall corner unit and a 1000mm wall unit so farl.

My issue is regarding securing them to the wall. They both have the standard adjustable wall fixings in the top corners to secure the cupboard to the wall, which is what i would expect.

However, the instructions or both also show a L shaped metal bracket that is screwed to the underneath of the cabinet and the wall.. I suppose it is to support the weight of the cabinet and hold the bottom against the wall.

However, it is unsightly, looks very unprofessional and not something i would expect of a kitchen at this sort of price point. I have fitted a few kitchens in my time and never had to fit such fixings outside the carcass before.

Question to any regular kitchen fitters, particularly anyone who has fitted wickes kitchens before - can i get away without fitting these and is it normal to have such external brackets?

thanks for any responses.

My kitchen cupboards only came with the corner brackets you mention. I wanted extra support though so I glued and screwed a batten to the bottom back of the cupboard (glued to the bottom panel and back panel and then screwed up from the bottom). Once the cupboard was leveled and adjusted I maked through and then screwed this batten into the wall. End result is an incredibly strong cupboard I could climb up if needed and all you can is some very small screw on the underside which to be fair you never see unless you are really short, and a few screws inside the cupboard itself, which of course are hidden by food and crockery.
